Now on to today's post!

So you want to homeschool....

New homeschooling families often find it challenging in the beginning.

(specifically if your child was in public school)

In the beginning, there is an adjustment period.

Many people tell you to deschool for a period of time.

What is deschooling?

Deschooling is simply removing your child and your self from the standard school mentality.

Most people will tell you to deschool one month for each year your
child has been in public school.

I tell people to take there time, find fun things to learn and
explore, while you are getting out of
the "school" mode.

Learning is not just about books and tests.

You may wants to  take a trip to the zoo, museum, or to a park.

You will be surprised how much your child will learn during this
time.

Keep in mind that deschooling is not for everyone.

You are the "teacher" and parent so do what you

feel would best help your "student" and child.

Words Spoken True... book review

Words Spoken True
by Ann H. Gabhart

* This book was given to me by Baker Publishing group to read and review.*

Meet Adrian Darcy.  She loves the newspaper business.  And why not, she was raised working hand in hand with the editor, her father.
She can't wait for that next story.
Just a problem, She is a lady... and
the newspaper business is not a proper place for a lady to work.
Adrian has other issues that she must face; her father wants her to marry Stanley Jimson.  Its all set, even though Adrian was never asked.

Meet Blake Garrett, a young editor of the Herald.  Adrian's rival.
Adrian and Blake both are on the trail to get the scoop... who will be the first to publish the facts.  It's a newspaper war of words.

The town is in the middle of chaos, ladies fearing to go out at night; Men in the Know nothing party getting all riled up for the election.

This story has so much action, that it will keep you on the edge of your sit!   I enjoyed reading this... loved the action, loved the laughter...

You will be surprised by the ending, I know I was... but I think that is what made the story.

Great Book!  Now what are you waiting for... go get your copy today!

the Yogurt Experiment

Every week I make a trip to the grocery store.

Every week my girls ask me to buy them their favorite Yogurt.

Every week I spend in the neighborhood of $7.00 for the stuff.

I then come home and marvel at the fact that yogurt cost so much!

Then one day, as I was browsing the web, I came upon

a blog post on making your own yogurt.

Well, what could I loose?

Monday I began and made my first batch of yogurt.

(and I forgot to take a picture!)

It  came out looser than I expected, but over all great for

fruit smoothies!  (which I have made everyday)

Now, on to prefect my yogurt recipe.

2nd batch of yogurt here I come!

If you have any tips or hints to get that prefect yogurt you would

like to share, I would appreciate it.

When the Smoke Clears: Book Review

When the Smoke Clears is the first in the Deadly Reunions series by Lynette Eason.

This book starts out with a bang.  It is a high speed ,thriller!  Alexia is being pursued by
someone who wants to kill her.  The only thing, Alexia has no idea why someone would
have an interest in her.

Read the back jacket:
After a brush with death due to equipment failure, smokejumper Alexia Allen is ordered to take time off while the incident is under investigation. She makes a last-minute decision to recuperate at her mother's home and attend her high school reunion. Yet trouble seems to be following her, and within hours of arriving home she is confronted with murder, arson--and a handsome detective.
But the conflicts ahead are nothing compared to the ghosts of her past. As she struggles to accept and forgive her family's past, she must also decide if the secret she's been guarding for the last ten years must finally come to light.
Chock-full of the suspense and romantic tension you've come to expect from Lynette Eason, When the Smoke Clears is the explosive first book in the Deadly Reunions series.

I love this book!  But, really what can I say.. I am a sucker for a good book.
This is an  action packed book that will keep you
turning those pages.
I can't wait to see what happens in  Lynette Eason's next book!

Happy Reading Everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day

“A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another; as I have loved you,
that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that
 ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another.”

Happy Valentine's Day to all my blogging friends!

Why Do You Homeschool?

Why do You Homeschool?

This question has been asked to me whenever a new acquaintance  finds out we
homeschool.  I always have to pause and think :
Why do I homeschool?

I am sure that my days could be better spent with all those chores that never seem to get done.
But no, I have chosen to give my girls the best education  I can.    I homeschool because I felt called to do so.

One day, I was reading my daily devotions.  I came across this scripture.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

It seemed the moment I read it... I knew that I would be a homeschooling mother.

Summer of Promise Review

Though she had planned to spend the summer in Vermont, Abigail Harding cannot dismiss her concerns over her older sister. Charlotte's letters have been uncharacteristically melancholy, and her claims that nothing is wrong ring false, so Abigail heads west to Fort Laramie, Wyoming. When her stagecoach is attacked, Wyoming promises to be anything but boring. Luckily, the heroics of another passenger, Lieutenant Ethan Bowles, save the day.
Abigail plans to marry when she returns to Vermont, just as soon as she attends to her sister. As the summer passes, she finds herself drawn to this rugged land and to a certain soldier determined to persuade her to stay. When summer ends, will she go back East, or will she find her heart's true home?
Endorsements
"Summer of Promise is an engrossing story of love and adventure on the Wyoming frontier that is sure to capture your heart! Get ready for a cleverly concealed villain and a charming tale of life on an Army post woven into an engaging, fast-paced, heartwarming read!"--Kathleen Morgan, author, A Heart Divided and A Love Forbidden

Amanda Cobot has written another great novel.  I began reading Summer of Promise and finished it in one day!  That's right,  I just could not put it down.  This book is filled with twists and turns that  kept me turning the pages to see the out come!  Abigail faced more than she thought she would just on a little summer visit to her sister's.  You have to read Summer of Promise to found out why.  I'm now tell you!

What are you waiting for?  Go Get it!

Summer of Promise was given to me by Revell to read and review.

Scripture of the Month

1 Thessalonians 5:24
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

He is faithful to do all He has promised in his Word. I'm so glad that he is faithful to meet our needs and to give us our wants. There is no one Greater than OUR LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST!
