Money... We all must have it to survive. Our children see us hand over our dept card, credit card or even writing a check... they know what means.
We are spending money!
If your like me, your child has asked for something to only be told by you.. "Sorry, but we don't have the money for that right now.." You hear this reply.. "All you have to do is use your card."
How do you teach your young one's about the importance of money?
Many children see their parent's spending habits... and they follow with that example.
If mom and dad are in dept and struggle to make ends meet... most likely son and daughter will be the same.... why .... its what they saw.. the examples they had.
One of the most important lessons you can teach your kids is how to handle their money. Unfortunately, for most of us, giving our kids a financial education is an afterthought. Where do you start? And what if you don't feel financially confident yourself?- Raising Financially confident kids
Raising Financially Confident Kids by Mary Hunt is a great recourse to help you as a parent teach your child the value of money... why its important to control your spending, why saving for a rainy day is important.
Chapter 12, is one of the most important chapters in her book... it contains information about basic money facts your child needs to know.. for example, why your credit report is so important... what happens when you rack up those credit cards... important information to teach your child about money management.
I do believe we as parents must take the time to teach our kids how to become good money managers now while they are young.
If you don't know where to start... this book will give you a starting place.
