Why do You Homeschool?

This question has been asked to me whenever a new acquaintance finds out we

homeschool. I always have to pause and think :

Why do I homeschool?

I am sure that my days could be better spent with all those chores that never seem to get done.

But no, I have chosen to give my girls the best education I can. I homeschool because I felt called to do so.

One day, I was reading my daily devotions. I came across this scripture.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

It seemed the moment I read it... I knew that I would be a homeschooling mother.

Summer of Promise Review

Amanda Cobot has written another great novel. I began reading Summer of Promise and finished it in one day! That's right, I just could not put it down. Where Wildflowers Bloom Reveiw

I just finished reading another great book published by Revell. Its Where Wildflowers Bloom by Ann Shorey.

Faith Lindberg has lost her father and brother during the Civil War. All she has left

is her grandfather. Faith wants to leave her home town of Noble Springs, Missouri. But

she has one small obstacle: Her grandfather does not

want to leave! He owns a mercantile and does not want to sale.

Curt Saxon and his sister Rosemary have moved to Noble Springs for a fresh start.

Curt is a Civil War veteran with memories he would soon like to forget.

Rosemary worked as a nurse during the war and now no one wants to befriend her.

Faith and Rosemary form a friendship... but what of Faith's dream of moving?

This is a great story. I was reminded that we don't always know

the plans that God has for us. His plans are so much more greater than

we could ever dream. Our dreams, are our dreams!

This is one book that you should read! Revell even has put together a reading group guide for you.

I enjoyed reading it , I know you will also.

Thursday's Review: The Keeper

This is another great novel by Susanne Woods Fisher.

I began reading this novel thinking it would be along about

the same as other novels.

Boy, was I wrong. From the beginning I was either laughing

or crying!

There is a major twist in the story, that I did not see

coming.

In my opinion, it just make the book.

I can't help but wonder what sister the next book will be

about.

This is by far one of Susanne's best novels yet.

Counting my blessing week 1

I have much to be thankful for.

I have been blessed with so much.

Some times life has a way of making you forget

all those little blessings in your life.

This year I have determined to count my blessings!

This week I have been blessed to spend

a few days with my parents.

I don't get much time with them, living a few hours

away.

The girls and I are enjoying staying with them while my

husband is out of town working.

I know this may be a little thing, but I am

blessed to have my parents

who are willing to house

myself, the girls, and our 2 furry friends

for the week.

"Be Strong"

Welcome to the first of Tuesday's Word of Encouragement.

We all can use some encouragement from time to time. You may be finding it had to get all those school

activities done, or you may be just feeling down or stressed over some situation

you are going through.

As I was reading my daily devotions yesterday, I came across this scripture:

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Moses was addressing the Israelites. He knew that he would no longer be able to continue the journey to

the promise land. He left them some lasting words

of encouragement.

BE STRONG, FEAR NOT, FOR THE LORD THY GOD GOES WITH THEE!

In verse 8 he says:

And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee, he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

These words were not just for Israel, but for us as well!

We can be assured that if we love the Lord God above all else and depend on Him;

He will never leave or forsake us! He will be our Helper!

Because of this promise, we can "be strong and of good courage".

We can preserve in trials.

We can resist those temptations, and

We can fully place our trust in the Lord.

Oh Boy!

What can I say? I really need to be lesson planning for the next few weeks, but instead I'm surfing the web, wasting time, washing clothes, supervising kitchen clean up, and getting ready to process 2 deer my wonderful husband shot last week.

Ok, Tomorrow I promise I will hit those books and plan! Oh, and maybe get that tree and all the Christmas Decorations boxed up.

Who am I kidding? I just need to ~~relax for a few more minutes~~ get off this computer and get to work !

Christmas break has been so relaxing! The girls are enjoying all their gifts. I am trying to get the house back in order. Its that time again, to start lesson plans for the next semester.... I better get on the ball... School starts back soon!

Its only one week until we celebrate the birth of Jesus. What a wonderful time of the year! With the busyness of the holidays, lets not forget why we have Christmas. Its not because of Santa Claus, or getting and giving of gifts. Its because of Jesus!

Joys of Homeschooling

I can say without a doubt that this is the best year we have had in our schooling adventure.

The year is not over yet... but this has been a stress free and enjoyable school year.

Why is that, I wonder?

Less Distractions

One reason I believe is, is that I don't have any other children to take care of during our school year.

I can force more on the challenges of each school day without outside distractions.

It could be that we have finally found our "grove", but from every

magazine article I have read ... distractions are one of the most difficulties many HS face.

I am more Organized

Organization is the key!

We are having fun!

When you make learning fun, I can say that you are going to enjoy teaching more and your

children will enjoy learning more!

Wow, I just realized that I have not posted anything in a few weeks. I have been busy with Christmas sewing, homeschooling, and wifely duties.

I am so proud of myself! I have made all of my sisters, sister in laws, and my mother's Christmas gifts this year. They are very cute and I pray they enjoy them as much as I did making them. Janelle and Kalyn have enjoyed helping with the ironing, sewing, and wrapping of each gift. There is nothing like team work!

As we are coming to a close in our schooling for the holidays, I have done a review of where each girl is at in her subjects. I can say that I am very pleased with each of their progress this semester. They are working very hard and it shows ! Way to go girls!!!

My husband has been very busy. ... (this is of course his busy time of the year, with it being deer season and all.) I am not a hunter nor do I like being where their could be a snake or other vermin crawling about, but he has had me drop him off at deer blinds while he was "on the hunt" for a buck. Let me tell you, driving in complete darkness is totally not fun! I got lost!!!! I dropped him off one morning and on the way home, nothing looked right, so I whined up at a completely different part of the ranch. Luckily, I knew where I was (after getting there!) and was able to make it home.

My husband finally bagged the buck after a week of playing "hid and seek" with it. He called me so excited and asked for me to come get him ( and DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA). I show up in my sleepers of all things... thinking that he could just take a picture and I can stay in the truck.... WRONG... I had to get out and take pictures. I told my husband that I now need ranch shoes! I was so scared that some critter would crawl up and my poor feet would be bite.. That being said, I am now the proud owner of hiking/ ranch boots!

Here is one of the pictures I so bravely took! Hey, after all, I had to walk in the brush with all but sleepers on!

Just yesterday, he bagged two doe! Can you see what my future holds?

Where has this year gone? Its already Thanksgiving... a time to count our blessing and give thanks. I am reminded of the Scripture in the Bible :

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

I Thess. 5:18

In every thing give thanks! I am so thankful for all the blessing the Lord has shown our family. I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, and two beautiful daughters. I have a wonderful church family and friends. I am a blessed Lady!

I AM in Here... book review

I am in Here, is written by Elizabeth M. Bonder, who has autism, and her Mother Virginia. This book in a way, is the story of Elizabeth's life. You will find many, many insightful poems, and encouraging words written by a young lady who struggles with this autism.

God loves us all

It does not matter who you are

It does not matter if you stray far

God is always there for you

In spite of what you may do

His love is stronger than anyone can know

you just have to know to go

to God.

Elizabeth wrote this poem at the age of 9! Wow!..... she wanted people to know the power of Faith.

She has so much insight for such a young child...

This book also shows the reader the challenges and frustrations that Elizabeth faces.

What an inspiration Elizabeth is! I recommend this book to all my friends...

my Hair loss Solution!

I have very thin hair. I loose lots of hair every time I wash, or comb my hair. Lately, I have been loosing ton, hand fulls of hair! My no means do I want to be bald by the time I am forty.... I began looking into a natural remedy for all of this hair loss that would not cost me a fortune.
I found a hair "wash" and hair "conditioner" recipe that I decided to try. I have been using it for over two weeks now. Let me tell you.... I have minimum hair loss! I was so happy with the outcome that I told my husband about it.... he said "Good, You can save me more money!"

Would you like to know what I am using to wash my hair? A Baking Soda / water mix !
I am using a mix of Vinegar and water with essential oils for the conditioner.

I am not crazy! This stuff works... it cleanses my hair and makes it super soft.

Here's the Recipe I am using:

Shampoo: 1 part aluminum free baking soda + 3 parts water Mix well in a convenient bottle and use this to shampoo your hair. Focusing mostly on your scalp and leaving it set for several minutes before rinsing.

Conditioner: 1 part organic white vinegar + 4 parts water, you may also add essential oils for fragrance ( I used lavender), one woman puts vanilla and a cinnamon stick in hers. Mix in a convenient bottle and use for conditioner, massaging into scalp and hair and then rinsing after a minute or so.

Hey If you are having hair loss, give this a try.... You might be surprised at the outcome.

Peanut Butter Cups

I love searching the internet for great recipes. I found a peanut butter cup at Joy of Baking. I asked Kalyn if she wanted to help me make some.

She jumped at the chance to get in the kitchen and get her baking on!

All you need to get started is:

peanut butter
powder sugar
butter
shortening
milk chocolate chips
semi-sweet chocolate chips
paper liners for mini- muffin cups

I had Kalyn line the min-muffin pans. These things were so simple to make! It takes no time at all.....

Here's the recipe:

Peanut Butter Cups:

1/2 cup (125 grams) creamy peanut butter

2 tablespoons (28 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (55 grams) confectioners (powdered or icing) sugar

Chocolate Coating

1 cup semi sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

1 cup milk chocolate, coarsely chopped

1 tablespoon (10 grams) shortening

Line 36 miniature muffin cups with paper liners.

Place the peanut butter,unsalted butter, and salt in a microwaveable bowl, and heat in the microwave for about one minute or just until soft, but not melted (check and stir the ingredients every 20 seconds). Stir in the confectioners sugar.

Melt the chocolates and shortening in a heatproof bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water.

Drop a teaspoon of the melted chocolate into each of the paper lined miniature muffin cups. Top with a scant teaspoon of peanut butter mixture. Then top with another teaspoon of melted chocolate. Refrigerate until set. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Makes about 36 peanut butter cups.

These things are sinfully good! So enjoy!

A Look Back on this 1st Quater

Yeah!!!!!!
We have successfully completed the first quarter!
I am so proud of my girls.
They have worked hard and it shows.

Looking back, I thought that teaching a high schooler would be easy. NOT!

I have struggled and struggled to find the right curricula just for her. I thought I did... well Math has me stressed to the max.
After struggling, and struggling, and struggling (yes, that much!) I finally decided that it was time to start all over! Yes, that's right, We have started all over at the beginning of her math book, after nine weeks of struggling.

If you have homeschooled for any amount of time, you will know that sometimes our children get stuck on a subject and then just can't seem to get over that "hump".
Hopefully, with us starting from the beginning, she will be able to move past that "hump" and on her way!

My 5th grader has improved her math skills. She struggled with multiplying and dividing simple equations. .... after weeks of drill, drill, drill... she is well on her way!

Way to go girls! I am so proud of all the hard work that you have put forward this quarter! Keep it up!

What can I say about this book? I loved it! NO surprise there. As you know, I am somewhat of a book worm. I love just about any story.... but this one, what can I say... Lydia Gale saves a French prisoner, then he saves her life........ what more can happen? Lydia is threatened! Christien tries to find out who it is...

Laurie Alice Eakes knows how to keep a reader on their toes! I just could not put the book down.... I wanted to know who was the "Bad guy". I was shocked when I found out! (Don't even ask me! You know I can't give the end away!) I will say the chemistry between Lydia and Christien are something....

This is the first book in The Daughters of Bainbridge house. Lydia has two other sisters, Cassandra and Honore. I wonder who the next novel will be about.... I can't wait to find out!

Now, I think I will get out my fall recipes and make me some pumpkin rolls, pumpkin bread, and what ever else pumpkin I can find!

Looking for a way to get you motivated to get moving? Walk Strong, Look up by Chantel Hobbs may just be the book for you. I have tried in the past to get moving and walk every night... but many times I have failed at my efforts. In this book, Chantel gives you step by step instructions on those little things that can help get you motivated. At the end of each chapter, she has what I would call a heart to heart section... with questions for you to answer and think about. One thing she states in her book, is "don't walk along...bring HIM with you". Bring Jesus with you on your walk... make it not only a time of exercise but a time to pray and meditate on the Lord. She also give great advice on buying the right type of walking shoes. She has great recipes for shakes and meals in the book as well.

This book has great practical way to help you get moving... one thing I really liked was the walking routine she mentions... a week by week routine to get you started and not burned out!

Deeply Devoted Review

Within the pages of Deeply Devoted, you will find a story about people adjusting to a different way of life. You have Peter and Catharine, newlyweds, in a house with Catharine's sisters... all of them who know nothing about how to keep a house, or even cook for that matter (all except Peter that is). Peter has to put his frustration aside and learn to deal with the other people in the house besides his wife. Peter is also having to deal with his mother, who does not like the idea of him sending off to find a bride when she had the perfect girl already picked out for him! And then, you have Catharine, who is still hiding an important fact about herself from Peter.

This book has a great story line. Catherine's secret added a twist to the book. Oh, and you can't forget about the beloved china that Catherine brought along with her.... read and find out what happens when Peter brakes one! Deeply Devoted is the first in The Blue Willow Brides series. Deeply Devoted is a very enjoyable book to read. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

I began to understand her character more. Wow, What a great story! I do not want to spoil it for you... but lets just say that you will become so captivated by it, that you will not want to put it down.

Organization in the "School" Room

I know that I am not the only one who deals with the problem of organization. Every year, I wonder just how I am going to corral all those teacher manuals, answer keys, and test waiting to be taken. Try as I might, I have not been able to come up with anything to help with my problem. That is until I went to good old Walmart with my husband. He saw these plastic crates... you know those cheap things we forget about.... well I forget about!
I bought one... for less than 4 bucks I might add... came home and did this:

I filed and organized all my "teacher" stuff and wallah.... all my organization problems solved! Oh, How I wished I would have thought of this sooner!

What are some of the ways that you keep your school room organized? I would love to hear from you....

Deadly Pursuit... book review

I was on pins and needles waiting for this book! I loved Irene Hannon's last book in the Guardians of Justice series. I knew this one would be great too. The story takes place around Alison Taylor, Jack and Cole's sister(who we meet in book one... Fatal Judgement). Cole's tries his match making skill on her... both brothers are very protective of her, and Alison has an admirer... are two.

This book had the suspense mixed with the romance that I just love. What can I say... I love a good mystery with a little romance in the mix. It was a great story line. I do believe this book will be reread.... I also like the fact that my teenager can read it! It is a good entertaining "G" rated story!

Social worker Alison Taylor has a passion for protecting children. But now it seems she needs protecting. When her tormentor's attentions take a violent turn, she calls in reinforcements--her police-detective brother, Cole, and his new partner, ex-Navy SEAL Mitch Morgan. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my package, inside was a beautiful hard cover book... A Lancaster County Christmas by Suzanne Woods Fisher. Written in the pages is a story about lost, love, and choices. Two families are brought together during a snow storm two days before Christmas.

Great Recipe for the whole family!

I came across this great recipe for the crockpot! ( I am in love with my Crockpot! ) It is called ...get this... Crock pot style Ham and Potatoes..... (that says it all for me..I just had to try it!)

All you need is the following:
6 C. peeled potatoes that are cut into 1 inch cubes
1 1/2 cups of cubed, diced ham
1 can of whole kernel corn
1/4 cup of green pepper (bell peppers or any other you desire)
2 tbsp. minced onion ( I just chopped a half of an onion small)
1 can of condensed cheddar cheese soup
1/2 cup of milk
2 tsp of flour

Throw the potatoes, corn, ham, onion, and bell pepper in the crockpot. In a small bowel, combine soup, milk, and flour and whisk together til is is smooth. Pour over the potato mix. ( add salt and pepper to your taste!) cook on low for high.... until done... (on low for 7 to 9 hours.. high for 3 to 5)

How yummy does this look!

Serve this with Cheddar Cheese Biscuits and you have a meal for the whole family!

Are you ready for another great thriller from Steven James? Well your wait is over. Steven James has out did himself again. The Queen is another great thriller in the Patrick Bowers Thriller series. The Queen pretty much starts (give a few months or so) form where The Bishop ended. Patrick is on the case of another major crime. Tessa is trying to deal and cope with the all the stuff that took place in the previous book. Add in a few new characters mixed with the old and you get another great story! One thing about this book is... it's not as gory as the last one.(if you are the faint at heart you will appreciate this) So what's the story line. Well here it is:

I just loved this book. I sat down one evening, opened my copy, thinking that I would just read maybe a chapter or so....before I knew it.... it was one o'clock in the morning!

We can learn so much from others, and the way they live their life. For example, Suzanne wrote a chapter called "The mud hole". In this chapter she tells a story about an Amish family. The family pet has died and dad told his boys to dig a whole so that after Dad did all the errands, they could bury the dear old family pet. The boys found a mud hole, while working and decides that playing was funner than digging the whole for their lost loved pet. Dad comes home to find that the whole has not been dug and the boys had played in the mud hole.... What did dad do? He dug the hole and buried the pet. (This story is just so cute! Can you see your little boys and maybe girls doing this!... I can!)

As I read that story, I started thinking about all the times when life is hard , times are tough, kids are being kids and wonder is it so bad to just let kids be kids. Yes, Dad could of fussed the boys and made them finish the hole, but he knew they needed to be kids. Do we have to have our Kids in every spot, dance, or competition there is? What has happened to those days were kids played in the sprinklers, rode bikes down the street or played hide and seek with neighbors?

This book is filled with cute, thought provoking and some sad stories. YOU will find yourself thinking: what can I learn from the Simple life? I know I did.

Sewing class has begun

Both of my girls want to learn to sew. My oldest, J, has been doing a little of it here and there.

Here is some pictures of a project the girls worked on recently.

We used this pattern (with a few modifications for J's size).

These are for K, J made these also!

K, wanted to sew , this is her first time to use a sewing machine.

I gave K, this paper and told her to practice sewing straight lines. I think she did a good job. What do you say? I am so proud of both my girls...

Well, the sewing classes will continue....

First Week of School...Done!!

We have just completed our first week of the new school year. So far, so good! The girls have been working hard and are enjoying their new books. There were a few bumps in the road on Wednesday, but those have been taken care of and hopefully a new attitude will stay! :)

Do you like my picture? Schooling on the Cheap Side

This has been my goal for 2011-2012 school year. Get my supplies as cheap as possible. The Internet has been a great way for me to "shop" for homeschool deals.

I have become a fan of Currclick.com. They have some good and cheap unit studies, guides for books, and etc. Simple Homeschooling has quickly become a favorite of mine. JoAnna (the author of Simple homeschooling) has written some great history Curriculum. I was very happy to say the least, when I saw that she has written a new American history for middle school and high school. Her ebooks are very cheap and the unit activities are fabulous. I am so excited to use her new American history this year with both my girls!

I have also found state histories that I will be using this year with my youngest as we "travel the USA" learning about each state that makes up our great nation.

I have found great prices on used things from homeschool classifieds. Cheap teacher manuals for my science curriculum.

I am watching stuff on Ebay as well. (Cheap, cheap, cheap!!)

If all goes as I pray it does, than I will be able to start the school year off with less than ONE HUNDRED Dollars!!!!

YaYYYYYYY!!

Needless to say that I am SCHOOLING ON THE CHEAP SIDE this year!

Summer fun....

I just realized today that I have posted anything in a while. We have been keeping ourselves busy this last month. IN the beginning of July, the girls and I headed off to youth camp. I can not tell you what a blessing that week was for me! As a parent, you always pray that your children would have their own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You teach them the word, but they have to make that choice themselves. I was blessed to see that my girls were getting "in" and getting something from the Lord. On service that stands out is when Bro. Michael Tom preached about the "old boat church"... One point he made clear, stay in a church that is going it feed you spiritual! Don't settle for a church that will entertain you.... to many people want entertainment. He had all of the youth get up and come on the platform who wanted to get in the "old boat church"! EVERYONE OF THOSE YOUTH RAN.... yes I said RAN to that platform! The Lord moved mightily in that service. I could go on and on about that week, but for the sake of time I will not.
We came home on Friday evening and my husband told me that we would be able to move out to were he worked in just a few days. I knew we would be moving, but I did not know the exact time and place it would be taken place, so as you can imagine... I Had to get on the ball and start packing!
We were able to move the last weekend of July... just a few days ago... That was an adventure of its own!
First let me say, that we are in need of rain... very much in need of rain. Well, on the day we were to move, we had a chance of it, so we decided to "hurry" (as if you can) and move all of our stuff. We did load one, and all was going good. But driving to the ranch with load two... it started to sprinkle. I started to pray hard that it would just hold off for a few more minutes.... I had my electric piano in the back of the truck and I did not need nor want it to get rained on! The Lord answered my prayer... it did not start to rain until I had my piano in the house! We got wet and our stuff was wet, but we were able to get it all in the house during the rain.... what memories!

We are now living on a ranch of about 9000 arces. We are loving the peacefulness of country life. We have inherited some 14 or so cats! Some are wild, but the kittens my girls are playing with... so we will try to find them a home. Do you know anyone who wants a cat?

The Blessed book review

I have to say that this review has been hard for me to write... maybe that is why this one is late getting posted. Well, that is not really true. The truth is I completely forgot about it until today!
But in all honesty, I can't say that I have enjoyed this book. For the most part the book is well written, but I just could not get a handle on the Shaker beliefs. The leader of the group, is to be a reincarnation of Jesus. Now if she would have had written this book differently, showing the movement as a cult, than I may have enjoyed it more. But to be honest, I just could not get around all the false teaching that the characters were portraying to get a honest view of the story.
Please don't take my opinion hard, I just have strong beliefs in Jesus that when I read something that is so left field (from my beliefs), I just can't look past that point of view.

The book is well written! Lacey's spiritual faith grows, she learns who she is and so on... I don't know how it end this review but to say, get the book read it and decide for yourself.

Martha's life is taking care of her family. Her father Ephraim, brother Lazarus, and sister Mary are her life. She has dreams of being married, but it seems that no one will have her, so she is content to just take care of her family.

This book is a fictional novel based on Biblical Characters. Please keep that in mind when you consider reading it. I have read many Biblical based novels in the pasted and have found that some are closely related to scripture to make you either upset with the authors writing or you are thrilled with it.

The story of Martha in the Bible is one of a woman so involved with serving her family. In this book it is the same thing, Martha has taken over the household duties after her mother passes away. You will find similarities to the Bible as you read. You will read how Martha and her family meet Jesus. You will read about the dangers of being a follower of Christ. This novel was not so unrealistic that you can't picture what life was like for her and her family. This is a compelling story of Martha.

On the back cover of the book, it states " Follow Martha as she navigates the complicated worlds of family, faith, and love.... and you'll never read her story the same way again." This might be one of the truest statements I've read...
I know that I will never read it the same way as I had before.
You never know what God has planned for your life, just as Martha....

Are you creative? I can be when I put my mind to it. Which brings me to this post.

About a month ago, I bought a new purse at a local store. The purse has lasted only a few weeks. It already has started to fall apart.

So I decided to try and make me a purse. I can sew, but have never tried my hand at purse making.

I made this small plaid purse with brown polka dot. I kinda think it needs a pink flower to finish it off. Anyway, Kalyn loves it and tells me it is hers.

This one is the one I made for me. I love the way it came out. I just don't hope anyone thinks it is a diaper bag.....lol......

Anyway, Janelle has informed me that she needs one now....

I'm wondering how creative I can become with the next one?

Kimberly reminds me of so many woman out there. One who has gotten a divorce, not know what has gone wrong. Kim travels to Cedar Key, planning on staying only a week.... well we will see....

This book is another refreshing story! Since I read so much, I tend to sometimes see other story plots that are similar, but this one was new to me.... Imagine yourself setting by a pool, relaxing , reading this wonderful story... You will love it.

One thing I really liked is that the two divorced adults are not spiteful, yes Kim has problems at the beginning of the story with her ex, but she soon begins to find closer and becomes very civil with him. During the story, Kim finds out who she is.

This is a wonderful story that will be sure to please any reader.

Truth Camp Here we come!

Every summer our church sends all the youth and kids to camp. It is a week of fun, fun, fun, with an emphasis on walking closer to God.
My girls wanted to go so bad, but with finances the way they are, I did not know if we could make it or not.
I decided to ask my family if they would like to sponsor the girls and I. ( everyone has to pay, even the adults) The cost for camp is $110 a piece, so I was looking at over $300 for us all!
I love my family, they pitched in and with the help of my parents church sponsoring us, WE MADE ALL THE FUNDS NEEDED!

PRAISE THE LORD!

I am just so happy to know that my girls will be able to experience camp this year.

So Truth Camp here we come!

Unit Studies

I have never been one just to do unit studies with my girls for school. I just bought whole curriculum with everything we needed for the year.
Well, I have decided that since finances are tight to just make my own unit studies for some of the subject matter. I have been working on stuff for my oldest. Next year she will be doing her life skills studies, and I wanted to make sure she knew the importance of budgeting, saving, how shop on a budget and so on.
I'm working like a mad lady these days, but hopefully I will be able to get it all done by August.

When I began reading this book, I was so surprised! It is a fun, refreshing book that is great to read this summer. Emily is so feisty! She wants to change the world, well the world for women. She is so involved in reform of women, that she does not want any man to tell her what to do.... hahaha.... little does she know that Carter finds her enchanting and sets out to prove to her that she does need a man.

This book was so fun to read... I can't tell you enough how much I so enjoyed reading this book. I was so delighted with the story line. It is not a deep, dark, story with death or anything like that. It is a book that has a great story, but with fun, light hearted characters.

I have been extremly busy this week. I wanted to write this review Monday, but its Friday. I hope you enjoy your long weekend and honor those Millitary heros who have given us the freedoms we enjoy today.

Now for the review:

Kit Kenyon is a first-rate hostage negotiator. Noah Lambert is a good detective with excellent instincts. These new partners have hardly had time to get used to each other when they are thrown into a grisly murder case. As evidence mounts up and more victims are found, Kit and Noah realize they are on the hunt for a serial killer. The problem is, he may be hunting one of them too.

With nail-biting suspense, clever plot twists, and a hint of romance, A Killer Among Us is the latest thriller from Lynette Eason.

A Killer Among Us is book three in Lynette Eason's Women of Justice Series. I have not read the first two books. I found that this is book can be read with out reading the others.

The book opens with Kit Kenyon in a hostage negotiating situation. A great way to get you started! Her partner, Noah is at a murder scene. You will find yourself captivated by the story line. Kit senses that she may have a stalker on her hands to deal with as well as trying to find who wants her or her partner dead. Not to mention that they need to solve this case before more bodies drop!

I so enjoyed reading this book. The trill of the hunt, you can, say kept my reading. I can say one thing, the ending was a surprise to me, a good surprise by the way.

Remembering Dad

With Father's day just a few weeks away, I thought it would be fun to travel back in time. My Father is still living. I have a best dad and grandpa in the world. As a child, he took special time out of his hectic work schedule to spend time with us girls. I remember wrestling on the floor with him, (and of course He letting us win!) Dad taught me life lessons that I will never forget. He taught us the value of money and saving money. (Something that many children need today.) He taught me the value of honoring God in giving of tithes... Dad would say that if I did not pay my tithes that I was robbing God and God would not bless me. How true it is! Dad taught me to respect myself... and in looking for a man to marry... LOOK for someone that is in those alters praying!

He could not have given me any more great advice. My husband is truly a man of God. I have heard it said that girls look for boy that mirror her father when she is looking at marriage. Well, I did not get my dad, but I did marry a man who held those same principles that my dad taught me.

I see my husband teaching my girls those same valuable lessons that my dad taught me.

Thank you Dad for being my father and for teaching me those valuable lessons. Thank you honey for teaching our girls those lessons that will carry them thru out their lives.

I'm a sucker for Romance novels that date back to pioneer days. I have never read a book with this story line before. I was so thrilled with it. A feud between two families.... the fathers so bull headed that they can't see what is happening to there families. A jealous female in the mix. You have the making for one great story!

I just could not bring myself to put this book down. It has some funny parts in it... for example there is a tomato fight, a rumble in the mud, and more (I just cant think of any right now!).
A Heart Divided is not just a wholesome love story, but a story about forgetting the past and beginning new friendships.
I can't rave enough about how much I enjoyed reading this.

I love Karen Kingsbury's books! I have only one problem... they make me cry! lol......

If you have never read one of her books, than make sure you keep lots of tissues on hand. I guarantee that you will shed a tear or two.

When I receive the book, I found a "Family Newsletter" tucked inside the front cover. It was very helpful in faniliarizing myself with the characters of the book. You may get confused during the first chapter, but hold on all will come to light soon enough.

This book is great.... but it will leave you hanging. So if you don't like books that continue, than think about the anticipation you will feel until the next one is published.
A wonderful book... I can't wait to see what will happen next with the Bailey Clan.

I was so excited to receive this book to review. I was captivated by the first chapter! It is a fast action novel. I want to compare it to a James Bond story, but really it is so much better. As I read, I found myself captivated so much that I started placing myself in the characters place. So much happens in the book that you start to wonder if it will ever end. It does and on a happy note at that. I loved the book. I like how all the pieces of the story tied together.

I am working on some home ec. units for my oldest next year. I was looking for facts and things that I need to make sure to cover. Well, I came across this:

The following is from an actual 1950's Home Economics textbook intended for High School girls, teaching them how to prepare for married life:

1. Have dinner ready: Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal - on time. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him, and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospects of a good meal are part of the warm welcome needed.

2. Prepare yourself: Take 15 minutes to rest so you will be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. Be a little gay and a little more interesting. His boring day may need a lift.

3. Clear away clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives, gathering up school books, toys, paper, etc. Then run a dust cloth over the tables. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too.

4. Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces if they are small, comb their hair, and if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part.

5. Minimize the noise: At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of washer, dryer, or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet. Greet him with a warm smile and be glad to see him.

6. Some DON'TS: Don't greet him with problems or complaints. Don't complain if he's late for dinner. Count this as minor compared with what he might have gone through that day.

7. Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or suggest he lay down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soft, soothing and pleasant voice. Allow him to relax and unwind.

8. Listen to him: You may have a dozen things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first.

9. Make the evening his: Never complain if he does not take you out to dinner or to other places of entertainment; instead try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his need to be home and relax.

10. The Goal: try to make your home a place of peace and order where your husband can relax.

Food for thought! I just don't know how to keep the girls quiet.... nope won't work for us.

Very disappointed

I received the book THE DOPPLE GANGER CHRONICLES: THE FIRST ESCAPE, from Tyndale to read and review. When the book arrived I noticed that the cover was very dark and eerie looking. The pages have a black trim on them and some are black.
The book is about sisters that live in a home for children. One sister is very mean, and is removed from the home.
This book was written for children, but it is very inappropriate for them. There is a whole lot of violence, a scene with a spirit. (which I can tell if it an angel or devil), and there is a scene with a gun in which some one is shot.

What happened to writing books that are kid friendly! This book is very dark for a child. Don't let them read it.
I am very disappointed with it.

This book is an easy read. I enjoyed reading every word of it. Luellen was a young lady with a dream.... to become a teacher. I loved how the author, Ann showed how a young lady during that era of time, would have to struggle to accomplish what she wanted. Being just a woman was struggle enough during those times, but to have to deal with what Luellen had to and still come out the victor makes my heart feel blessed.

Ann Shorey wrote a masterpiece (in my opinion) on the struggles and victories one can accomplish if you set your mind to it.

I can say again how much I enjoyed reading this book. The one thing I loved most about this book is that I can let my teenager read it. I am very careful of what I allow my girls to read, even if it is a "Christian Published" book, It's a rated G book!!! There is nothing that I would deem inappropriate for a teenager. Who knows, this book just might encourage her to follow her dreams!

I have read the First two books in the Texas Dreams series. I was excited when I was able to read Tomorrow's Garden. I liked the story line.. A young lady in charge of raising her brothers and sisters. The struggles she faces with just the day to day choices she has to make for her family. She has given up so much of her own life just to be able to keep her family together.

While reading this book, I oftened wondered about all the people that have had to put their family first. What a great Sacrifice! What was funny to me is that Harriet is so busy keeping her family out of trouble and taken up with trying to raise them up right... that she has no idea that a man has taken interest in her.

I always try to take something away from a book that I read fiction or non fiction. ( and I may not say it every time I write a review) Even though this is a work of fiction, the author Amanda Cabot, brought this to my mind. That even though we may be going on in the life just doing what we feel we need to do, God is always looking out for us, bringing into our lives the people we need just when we need them. He is always taking care of us.

I enjoyed reading this book, and look forward to reading more from Amanda Cabot.

A week full of sickness........

We have had a week of sickness in our home.

I babysit, and well, unknowing to me.... the little boy was sick. His sister was sick, and the only reason I found out is because she had to leave early from school.

So the germs spread.

My youngest was sick earlier this week, had this virus of throwing up, the runs(if you know what I mean), aches and pain... for just one day.

Well, I get it this weekend! Yeah Me...NOT!

I woke up at 2am Saturday morning... running to the bathroom... not fun!

I was up and down all night long, I could hardly lay down before I had to get back up.... running to the make sure I could get to it.... if you know what I mean.

It has been the longest last few days.... I don't wish this on anything!

I am so glad that I am finally over it!!!!!
A week full of sickness is more than I could take....
so glad its over with!

I received an advanced copy of this book a few weeks ago. I was very interested in the story line. A woman with six children, trying to escape from a man who is not her husband but a control freak none the less.

Miranda is a homeschool mother. Since I also homeschool me children, I wondered how the author Meg Moseley would portray their homeschool day. Meg Moseley did an admiral job of showing a life of a homeschool family. She did mention some of the more radical homeschoolers that did not "know" about the outside world, but because of the story line I found it appropriate and not degrading to the homeschool families.

There was only a few things that I wish would be changed in the book; one is that she used the other word for donkey... I find it a cruse word.... and yes I know the Bible uses it but still. I wished that it was not in there. The other thing is at the end of the story, Jack gives Miranda something but I never read where he gave it to her at... BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT MY COPY IS AN UNCORRECTED COPY.... so they may have made these corrections and I not know about it.

Over all it was a good book, with a great story line!

Expert from The Deepest Waters:

Thirty minutes later, the Vanderver lurched violently, tossing men every which way. Dozens went over the rail. The rest slid down the desk toward the base of the ship, colliding so bard that some were knocked unconscious. Shouts and fearful cries to the Almighty rang through the air. John was still conscious but felt blows from the several elbows and feet about his head and sides.

I became fully captivated with this story. I can say that this book started with bang! Dan Walsh intertwined the lives of the ladies and the lives of the men very well....( the ladies were rescued by another ship, leaving the men to fight it out.) I found myself worrying what was going to happen, if John was going to make it, will Laura ever find her husband?
The Deepest Waters is filled with hero's and heroins. The need for survival out shines the preconceived notions about the fellow men and ladies. I love how Dan showed that the Lord does indeed provide for his Children. It was encouraging to me, to see an author write about God's Keeping Power!

This book is not just a love story, it is a story about how in the deepest darkest spot we may find ourselves in, God is there Watching out for Us, Providing for us and keeping a hand of safety on us.

Warning.......

My title should tell you to be ware, this post may get ugly! LOL....
Yesterday, I was on my husbands desktop computer doing my daily typing for him... I finished printing the His paper and then decided that since my girls were quietly working on their school work, I would just go and lay down and rest my eyes.
When I got up, I found out that the computer monitor was not on, so I tryed to get it on.... to no avail... it would flicker than turn black again.

A friend was here and she gave me the suggestion to go on my laptop, and see if I can get a number to call for support. Great Idea, why didn't I think of it!
I log on to the website to find out that I can only chat with the support person, I can't call... no phone number listed.

I get on with a person, I am not even sure if it was a him or she, tell them my problem. They proceed to agree with me that it is my monitor. I do what they tell me and yeah... it is working.... so i disconnect with them.
NOT TEN MINUTES LATER...it is black again.
so i get on chat again.... this time I get a total different person and they tell me it is my system!
WHAT!!
It takes me forever ( am I mean forever typing with them) to convince them that it is my monitor...which they don't get it....
So I decide to get the monitor off my girls computer and put it on my hubby's computer....
I tell them that the computer is working fine and it is just the monitor....

Let me back up a minute... the first person I spoke to told me that my monitor was under warranty... so I am thinking great.... I just need them to get someone to fix it...

This 2nd person just tells me that it is the driver,and install this up date and everything will be fine... she disconnects with me.....k

well, I can't get the thing to down load and I KNOW THAT IT IS MY MONITOR....NOT MY SYSTEM!
I get back on chat for the 3rd time.... this person proceeds to tell me that my system is out of warranty so my monitor is out of warranty... I tell her no, that the first person I chatted with told me other wise...
She then proceeds to tell me that if it was under warranty that she would schedule someone to fix it...
she disconnects with me!

I am so frustrated with support services that don't give you someone to talk to.... just have to chat with people!
I like talking to people one on one....

All I wanted to know in the first place is if my monitor was under warranty still..... I think they should know that we as consumers do know what is going on.... hey, I have had a monitor go out on me before so I knew what was going on...

What I don't like is been given the run around, wasting my precious time.... for nothing!

Just tell me if I am under warranty, if I am ... help me solve the problem, If I am not... ok then....

So now, we have to buy another monitor... no biggy really.... at least I don't have to purchase a new system.

I just wish that you could call people for support and not have to deal with online chat!

Beware of your Tongue

I am always in search for new and intresting textbooks that keeps my girls attention.

Next year is my oldest first year in high school. I have no idea where to start with that. I know she will be doing Spanish, History, Physical Science, Algebra 1, Language Arts, and Bible.

I already know what I want for Physical Science, Language Arts, and Algebra 1... but the others I am at a lost!

There is so much to choose from, that I can get lost in trying to find what I think will be the best fit for her.

I have a few months before I really need to begin buying, but I love to read reviews, research the products, and then see if my girls would love it or not.
Well, my search will continue until I find what I believe will be the best for my dd.

Taking care of MOM

Taking care of MOM

Being a homeschool mom can take a toll on you. Let’s be honest here… we are not just teacher but mom, house keeper, chafer, cook,…. And the list can go on and on and on.

I find that some days I am just burned out! I am tired, stressed at the thought of just thinking about school. I have come to realize that I have to take care of me…MOM. If I don’t than the whole house suffers.

How do I take care of ME? Let’s face it, I am a busy wife, mother, and a home daycare provider.

The most important thing is my Devotional time with the Lord. If I don’t start my day in prayer than, My day will not be very productive.

I take time out for myself during the day. Usually I “kick” all the children outside for about an hour. I can keep an eye on them while I am sitting in my chair relaxing. I may read a book, cut out a pattern, or just sit and listen to a quiet house. Mom’s just need some quiet time if you know what I mean.

Some times I just fill the need to get out of the house. I leave the girls with my husband and I may just run to the post office or the store. You don’t know how just a few minutes out can help you fill refreshed.

I have come up with a list to help take care of ME:

Prayer and devotional time
Spend time during the day for me…. Sitting and relaxing
A day out once a month without the children… hubby is invited to tag along.
Pamper myself a little… buy me something nice, maybe a bubble bath…

I have come to the conclusion that if I do simple and little things to make sure that I am taken care of than the rest of the family will be more happy and productive….

Like that old saying goes: If mamma isn’t happy than nobodies happy!
Mom’s are important so let’s not overlook ourselves!

I don't know where to begin with this review. This book was not at all what I was expecting it to be.   I was expecting a story that had a creative feel but that was closely in line with the Bible. I have to tell you that after a few chapters I stopped reading it because I was upset with the author. But I did finish reading it!
The Story is just that a fiction story that (you can say) takes place or continues where the story of Job in the Bible ends ( it was all a little confusing to me excatly what time it takes place). We don't know what took all took place in the Book of Job. I had to remind myself of this when I began to read it again.
It was a delightful book to read.   I was pleased with it (after I overcame my own expectations).

This book just proved to me that you never know what is behind the cover until you began to read and get captivated by it.    I am glad that I did in fact read this book. Take time, lose all your preconceived expectations and read it, you will be delighted.

Crock pot cooking...here we come!

I finally bought me a new CrockPot! I fell in love with the one pictured.

CrockPot Cooking here we come! I have always wanted a new one, but could not justify spending fifty bucks for one. I was at the grocery store yesterday and I noticed this crockpot up on a top shelf, with no price tag in site... So I hunted down an employee and asked for the price.... $29.95! I snatched it right up.

I even have dinner, cooking away....

Now I am on the search for crockpot recipes! If you have one and want to share.... place it in comments!

Families are a Treasure

Spending time with family is a treasure. It has been few weeks since my family has been able to just get away and relax.

We decided to get new tires on our truck this weekend, but the dealer lived almost two hours away. My parents live in the same town as our car dealer we buy from, so we just decided to pack up and spend the weekend there.

My parents always love to have their grandkids around, and their daughter and son in law. But just between us, the grandkids win hands down.... ;)

What a relaxing weekend! I love just being able to sit and relax.
You don't have to do anything special to spend quality time with the family, just visiting, playing games, talking together is all you need.

Mom and I played games, Hubby and my Dad talked and just visited, the girls took advantage of a TV (we don't own one) to watch movies.
We even were able to go to church with my parents.
All in all a great weekend.

Now that we are all relaxed.... Maybe we are ready for this coming Week!

Hubby Duty Day

Today is what I love to call hubby duty day! While my lovingly hubby is out doing yard duty, I am in the house writing this post.

I love that my hubby will take time out of his day to work in the yard. I love that he will do it. I am so scared to go out back that if it was up to me, the yard grass would be a tall as the house.

I just wanted to take time out and tell the world that I love my Hubby! I am thankful for all he does for our family. He goes to work sick and does not complain about it. He takes our grumpiness and lets it role off his chest.

The Dog and the Little Girl

The Dog and the little Girl

The little girl is named Monday. Her dad bought her a dog named Adam. Then her Dad bought her a cat but she did not like it, so her dad sold it for $10.00. The little girl got the money.
But then her dog got sick and then her dad got a doctor for the dog. The dog got better. Monday got sick and the doctor got sick. Little Monday got better. But then dad got sick and the doctor sent some letters to some doctors and the doctors came to the house. The dad, the dog, and little Monday all got better.

The dog ( this must have happened later) had three puppies. We named them Spacer, Champ, and Princess.
Monday had a baby girl. (apparently she got married) and she is two years old.

( are my comments!)

I am proud of her. She is working on her writing skills and she wrote all by herself.... without it having to be an assignment!
I have not proofed it...just copied how she wrote it.

This is book 2 in the Irish Angel Series by Jill Marie Landis. I have never read one of Jill's books before. I love to read stories that take place back in history.
Jill did a great job on this book. She kept the story lively, far from boring! I kept telling myself stuff like, Maddie why did you do that! Come on girl, stop running! Yes, I was talking to the book.
My favorite character besides Maddie is the little kidnapped girl... she was so spunky. She made me laugh more than once while reading.
I loved it! I can't wait for the next book to come out.
If you love Historical Fiction, than you will love this book! Check it out you will not be disappointed!

Searching for a new home...

We are living, well renting an older home in the small town that we live in. Well, when we first moved in I found a king snake (very long). It was in our laundry room working its way under the dyer. I am terrified of snakes so it took me two weeks to go in the laundry room by myself. Well Sat. my daughter saw a small snake on her window seal inside her room. Again, I was very glad that hubby was home to take care to it.
I have decided that it is time to start searching for another home. I just don't feel safe here anymore. There is not a whole lot to choose from around here so the search is on!

I have a list of things I want in my new home that I feel are important to our home:

two bathrooms
3 bedrooms
one room to use as a school room
big back yard
enough room for our stuff

I really am wanting to look for a home that has enough room so I can have a school room. We have looked at a home that meets these needs, so we are praying about it.

I am praying that the Lord will give us a home that I can feel safe in without the scare of any unwanted guests finding there way inside!

Building Godly Character Chapter 1

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deut. 6:7

This is my Scripture for homeschooling. I believe as a mom it is my responsibility to teach my children good Christian Character. Last year, I worked on some Character trait lessons and stories to use with my youngest school work.

I have decided to share some stories I wrote with you my friends.

Here is a story that I wrote to deal with our lesson on kindness:

Matthew 7:12

12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

The Echo
One day George was walking in the woods behind his house singing and shouting. He was surprised to hear it repeated. George looked around to see who was also in the woods.

“Who are you?” George called out and immediately and he heard the voice again. He called out again, only this time louder. “You are a fool.” “Fool” , replied the voice from the woods.

George was now beginning to get anger. “You are a no good, rotten person!” George began to shout to which was faithfully repeated by the voice.

George began to search for the little boy who he thought was mocking him. He searched everywhere. He looked by the river, looked under the huge rock cliffs and looked by the grove of trees in the field. He finally gave up and went home.

“Mom, there was a boy in the woods that was mocking me. I searched everywhere and I could not find him. He made me so mad!” George told his mom.

”George, I think you have made a mistake.” Mom replied. “ You did not hear another little boy in the woods, it was your voice that you heard , an echo, just like when you look at a mirror and see your face reflected in it. If you would have spoken kindly to the voice, you would have heard kind words in return.” Mom continued, “ It is just like the little boys that you meet, their action toward us is an echo of how we have acted toward them. If we treat others kindly, they will in turn treat us kindly. But if we treat others rude and unkind, they will treat us rude and unkind.”

George stated exactly, “ Just like the golden rule.”

Mom replied happily , “ Yes, just like the golden rule…. Treat others as you would be treated.”

Thinking thru the story:

1. What did George think was in the woods with him?

2. What happened when the voice did not answer George?

3. What did George think the voice was doing?

4. Mom told George that the voice was what?

5. How will others treat us if we treat them kindly? Rudely?

Show kindness to others today by:

• Speaking gentle words

• Do a good deed for someone

• Do not let anger take over your speech

What can I say about this book? It was an amazing book. I have read book 2 in the Wives of David series, so I was hoping this book would not disappoint me. Well, It didn't! Jill Smith keep this book closely to the Bible as I expected it to be. Of course, she used her creative side to give us a more in depth view on the love between David and Bathsheba.

I had always wondered as many probably have, what may have happened that the Bible did not record. This book let me imagine what life was like for Bathsheba.

Jill Smith is an amazing author that keep me captivated thru out the whole book. This is a book that I will keep stocked away to read again!
Next time your at the book store... take a look at this book! You will enjoy it.

I recieve this book by Tyndale to review.

I love Adventures in Odyssey, so when the oppintunity come to review this book I took it.
It is a very easy read for ages 7 and up. It is filled with action and adventure. All that you expect from a trip in the Imagination Station. I love the fact that it mixes a little fiction with history! Great book for the little readers!

Friends come in all sizes

I have recieve a book by Waterbrook press to review. It is called Divine Appointments by Charlene Ann Baumbich.

I have to say that it did take me a while to really get into reading this book. I am glad that I have finished it though.

Divine Appointments is a story about Josie Brooks, who is a consultant. She is single but married to her job... a job that does not make it easy for friends. Who wants to be friends with a lady who may say your job is no longer needed.

Josie does not expect to make any friends on this assigment, but she unexpectally does!

This is a pleasent read, not very adventurous but nice.

Friends come in all shapes and sizes, Josie found that out... read the book you will enjoy it!

Lady in the Mist was given to me to review.

I love mystery type books, and this is a mystery book.

Now for my take on the book:

Tabitha Eckles is a mid wife, just like her mother, and her grandmother. All the woman in her family have passed down the trade of mid wife. Along with the profession comes secrets. Tabitha holds those secrets and tells no one! But someone has threaten her! What secret does she unwilling know, and who would go to any lengh to make sure she keeps them, even if it means her death.

Dominick Cherrett is a man who has his own secrets. He meets Tabitha at the wrong time and place, so Tabitha thinks he is a British spy. Dominick takes a liking to Tabitha and wants to protect her at all cost.

This book is full of suspense! It has twist and turns that left me guessing. I have to admit that I did not see the ending coming. I enjoyed reading it. This is one book that I will read again.

Winter Blues

Do you get the winter blues? Does your homeschooling suffer those winter blues? I have been suffering those winter blues. I think mulitiply things factor in. I live in a house that is hard to keep warm, so during those really cold days, I can't think about anything but trying to stay warm. Maybe that's what it is, who knows.
So what do we do to help with those winter blues?
I get creative!
I have set aside days for special activities to help spice things up. Tuesday, my girls went to work with their dad. They hunted in the morning, than they worked on the ranch. The girls came home excited! They saw and learned things that left them wanting to do more. But boy did they come home, tired!
Tomorrow we will bake, anything and everything (if the girls have their say).
We also do jammie day, you know stay in jammies all day. This is the funnest for me!
I am wondering, what do you do to help keep those winter blues at bay? Please share with me..

Fatal Judgment by Irene Hannon

This book was given to me to review.

U. S. Marshal Jake Taylor is assigned to protect a Federal judge, who come to find out is his late best friend's wife.

Liz Micheal's can't understand why her late husband's friend doesn't like her. But she is stuck with him as her protector.

The question on both their mind is who is out to harm the judge, and can they get through this before emotions take over.

(Hummm..... I think a love story is in the making.) By the way, this is my little take on the story.

This book is full of suspense and romance! It leaves you on the edge of your seat. I kept on reading because I wanted to know what they found out, if Jake and Liz became friends.

This is my first time reading one of Irene Hannon's books. She is a great author. She left me wondering what was going to happen next. I found myself predicting on the who, what, and the how's of the story. Which is good, since I can guess the end with in the first few pages. I enjoy reading suspense novels with a romance intertwined. I look forward to the next book Irene Hannon writes.

Never been Kissed is a teen fiction novel.
Elise is beginning a brand new high school on the verge of being sixteen. She has never been kissed, so she is hoping beyond hoping that this year the opportunity arises.

This book is full of teen drama! Elise has caught the eye of a guy that has a jealous girlfriend. Girls that say their her friend but are not. Girls can be mean.

She finds herself accused of things.  She finds herself with all kinds of new pressure. What she needs is just one true friend.

I am very protective when it comes to what my girls read. I wanted to review this book to see what kind of fiction was out in the Christian market for teens.     I think this is a good clean book that deals with what teens go through but with out all the other junk. I liked the book, so much that in fact I am going to give this one to my daughter to read.

The Search

The Search by Suzanne Woods Fisher

I love reading stories that deal with the Amish life. This book is not an exception. When I started reading, I found that this books was different than all the others I have read in the past. It was a refreshing read. Most of the time I can read and figure out the end of a book before I get there. I can say that this did not happen this time to me.

Lainey O'Toole finds herself back into town were fifteen years earlier she made a chose that changed her life.

Bess Reihl finds herself in town helping her very intimidating grandmother Bertha, recover from surgery or so she thinks. Bertha is a very funny character. She talks Bess into stealing the sheriff's car not once but three times. (very funny scene in the story, if I do say so!)

Bertha has her own reasons why she wants Bess in town.... but you have to read the story to find out. ( I'm not going to give away it away!)

Spread Your Wings and Fly

While my daughter was in her bathroom (she was just fixing her hair, just so we have that straight), she noticed all of these beautiful birds flying all around by her window. She tells me, "Mom, you have to come see this!" I was amazing, these red cardinals, just spreading their wings and flying from tree to tree. I wondered if they were acourting! I have never seen so many at one time. I counted about 10 of them. I told Janelle to go and get my camera so I could capture them on the ground. Sadly, by the time she came back, they had moved to the trees. These are the best pictures I captured. These little guys can move!

God's Creation is beautiful! We stood at the window and just watched them until they moved to a tree that was no longer in our view. Later Janelle told me that she saw some nest in the trees on the other side of the house. Maybe we will be able to see some babies come spring!

Saving Money

I love to find money saving tips. A few weeks ago, I decided to find ways to save money any way I could. I made my own laundry soap, and fabric softener. Yes, some would say that it is just easier to go to the store and buy these items. Well, I found out that I can save money by making them.

It is so easy to make that I wonder why I never thought of it myself. My aunt told me to try it and that I would never go back to buying my laundry stuff again. I think she may just be right!

So here is my fabric softener ingredients: water, vinegar, conditioner. That's it! Never thought it would be that easy. It cost me only $1.85 to make. A saving of $3.00! Now, if that is not saving money than I don't know what is.

My laundry soap cost $2.00 to make with a savings of $5.00 or more if you use higher priced laundry soap than I did.

I know that some may think me crazy, ~~some of my family included,~~ but a dollar saved better than non saved at all!

What is Christianity all about? a book review of Radical by David PLatt

I received this book from Multnomah Bloger for Books. They send you a book, you read it and then you write a review. I thought why not read it and see what Platt has to say.

I could read the first few pages and then I had to go find a pen so I could under line some of his statements, you know just so I could go back to them. I agree with what He says that we have to choose what we as Americans consider to be a common Christian that only goes to church and then life as normal or we choose to do what Jesus did. Reach the world, your community for Christ.

Platt challenges us to not just be a Christian that does nothing, but to be a Radical Christian that will do what Jesus did to reach the lost. Most of us as Christians don't want to get out of our comfort zones. Platt challenges us to do just that.

I liked the book, it made me take a look at my life and see what I could do different to reach others for Christ.

I have started my holiday baking. Since my family loves peanut butter, I have decided to try a new recipe.

I love finding new recipes. Searching the Internet is the funnest, fastest, and easiest way to find what you need. I found this recipe for: (although I changed some of the recipe a little)

Peanut Butter Balls

Here's the recipe:

1 cup powder sugar

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

3 tablespoon butter (soften)

Mix the three ingredients together. Mix well. Shape into 1 inch balls, place on a waxed cookie sheet. Place in freezer for 20 min.

(This is the part that I changed)

Take 3 squares of Chocolate Bark and 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips, melt in the microwave. Dip each ball and place on the wax papered sheet. I place my dipped balls in the freezer until they are dried.

It makes 30.

My family is in Love with them! Now, If I can keep some around for Christmas!

Today I just can't seem to get warm. So, How are you suppose to go to school when Mom is in bed with blankets all over you! This is how:
